Women Empowerment by Definition

At first, we must agree that the notion of women empowerment is how we embrace a woman to maximize their potential. Meanwhile, gender equality is the equality of rights between men and women in terms of employment, health, education, marriage, social, and politics. From this definition, it can be concluded that women empowerment is how we can appreciate the potential and rights of a woman, to be able to have an opinion and express herself according to their will as an individual.

Maybe we all know that R.A. Kartini is one of the figures who initiated the awareness of women empowerment in Indonesia, especially in the educational field. But did you know that the issue of women empowerment was only really raised and taken seriously in the government when the “Ministry of Youth for the Role of Women” (MENMUD PW) was formed in 1978, which has now changed its name to “State Ministry for Women Empowerment and Child Protection” (Ministry of PPPA)? Maybe we can feel the application of women empowerment in many big cities in Indonesia, but it is different for those who live in rural areas. Unfortunately, most of us do not understand women empowerment and their rights as individuals and citizens.
